This week Romp n’ Roll is celebrating the Week of the Young Child which is a national, an annual celebration hosted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers and families. Today is Taco Tuesday! Enough said. No, really, today’s focus is healthy eating and feeding your child’s growing brain.
There are many popular and widely distributed foods that actually hinder a child’s ability to think and process. Foods loaded with sugars, caffeine, chemicals, and sodium are leaving kids tired, unfocused, jittery, and sick. These unhealthy food impact your child’s performance and can change your child’s behavior and mood.
The key is a balance between eating healthy foods and staying active! Avoid high glucose foods such as refined carbs (breads), fried foods, refined sugar, and sodas which could result in a post food crash, leaving your child lethargic and moody. Opt for small snacks throughout the day that include food high in protein such as nuts and eggs as well as natural fruits and veggies and powerful meals that are loaded with more lean protein, lots of veggies, and good oils such as coconut and olive. So the answer is, yes, tacos can be very healthy when made with lean meat and loaded with veggies! Enjoy some tonight and then come on in to Romp n’ Roll to get your child moving and grooving in honor of Taco Tuesday!
